The Urban Forest Project was born of a partnership among World Studio, AIGA NYC, and Times Square Alliance. 186 designers worldwide were selected to participate in this exhibition, including Massimo Vignelli, Paula Scher, James Victoire, Milton Glaser, Debbie Millman, and Armit Vit. The idea was to utilize the form or metaphor of a tree to make a powerful visual statement on banners displayed throughout Times Square. For sustainability, each banner was upcycled into two tote bags designed by Kate Spade and the sales went back into the WorldStudio Foundation and AIGA NYC's mentoring programs.
Within the silhouette and background of my creation are words and phrases related to trees, and the reversal of the colors depicts the disappearance of trees/green spaces in general.
